LEAFY RIVERS. A Novel. With An Autographed Notecard Laid in.

New York: Harcourt, Brace & World, (1967). First edition. Hardcover. Autographed notecard laid in with original mailing envelope dated Feb 4, 1968, to Mrs Frank H Bennett. "Dear Mrs Bennett / Thank you for taking the time to write me about "Leafy Rivers." Not every one has like it, so I cherish particularly those who do. I had a sister who lived until her death four years ago, in Palm Desert. So all that country is familiar and dear to me. She was Carmen Cook, the wife of the then Riverside County Supervisor Bill Cook. So apart from what you say, the heading of your letter stirs up many memories of happiness. I was born in Indiana brought up from the time of six in Southern California. A book of mine, "A Matter of Time" had a desert setting. Sincerely and with thanks, Jessamyn West." (Melba Berry Bennett was a scholar, poet, writer and bibliophile. She was invited by Robinson Jefferes to write his authorized biography, a work fueled by admiration and respect. She was awarded the California Commonwealth Club's Silver Medal in 1966 for the Jeffers Bibliography). A fine copy in green cloth in a near fine clean dust jacket. Item #13368
