THE WANDERERS. Richard Price.

THE WANDERERS.

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1974. First edition. Hardcover. Author's first book. Price was 24-years old when this book was published. The setting is a housing project in the Bronx, similar to where the author grew up. Each of the 12 chapters are loosely connected, mainly by reappearing characters. It is more like a collection of short stories -- each chapter can stand on its own. A conventional encompassing plot is missing. However, there is a thread; the protagonists are forced to mature, each one in his own way, toward the end of the book. A fine copy in red cloth with black stamping, in a fine, crisp, dust jacket.
