ANSEL ADAMS. THE ELOQUENT LIGHT. Volume 1. Foreword by David Brower

San Francisco: Sierra Club, (1963). First edition. Hardcover. Folio. It is hard to tell which shaped the other more, Ansel Adams or the Sierra Club. What does matter is that the mutuality was important. The club provided, by chance, a small bulding of which a teen-age Ansel Adams could briefly be summer custodian; it provided him for many later summers a group of people who liked mountains as well as he did and who, as he helped lead them along wilderness trails in the sierra Nevada, learned to see more than they had expected to; and it provided him with a respect for all he had seen and learned. 175pp, with 88 gravure plates. Small bookseller label to bottom rear pastedown, Paul Elder SF. A very good plus clean copy with a bump to the spine crown, bound in green cloth with gold lettering with a very good plus jacket, clean, price-clipped, with a few short closed tears to the rear panel.
