She is best known for her novels and stories of the Kentucky mountain people, whose dialect and customs she carefully represented. All her work is distinguished by the beauty and rhythm of her prose. Bound in the publishers grey pictorial cloth, issued without dust jacket, with the original publisher's green paper slipcase with pictorial label. Clare Leighton (1898-1989) was an English/American artist, writer and illustrator, best known for her wood engravings. The book is fine, the slipcase is lightly soiled, the corners slightly frayed and bumped, otherwise very good. Item #14469
