This copy has a terrific inscription written, apparently, on a very bad day: "To Tom Garner, the way of all flesh; we 'no' of no exceptions. Ain't life fucking grand? Fuck the whole fucking world. Love, Harry Crews." The recipient was a Texas attorney and friend of the author's. Crew's third novel, "the story of the struggle between life (a woman) and death (another woman) for the small body and large soul of a midget masseur named Jefferson Davis Munroe." The dedication of this novel reads, "To the memory of my boy Patrick Scott Crews 1960-1964." Patrick drowned in a neighbor's pool. Dust jacket design by Terry M. Fehr.
