THE MERRY MONTH OF MAY

New York: Delacorte Press, 1971. First edition. Paperback. Tall Galleys, plastic spiral bound. Uncommon format. Crane Duplication Service, on Cape Cod, prints the disclaimer on the first page (interesting): ATTENTION, READER "This is an uncorrected galley proof. It is not a finished book and is not expected to look like one. Errors in spelling, page length, format, etc., all will be corrected when the book is published several months from now. Uncorrected proof in this form, might be called pre-publicity proof. It was invented so that you, the reader, might know months before actual publication what the author and publisher are offering. These proofs, for those of you who are interested in technical matters, are produced photographically, hence there is no wear on the actual type from which the book will be printed. Please note that the type lines are uniform in color, instead of the usual heavy and faint ones and there are no blank spots--errors which occur in other processes. This makes for much easier reading. If one page seems as a whole lighter than others, this is the fault of the proof boy, not the method. Probably he was in a hurry and perhaps did not read. As to the shot who produced this proof, we do read. We recommend this book to you and feel sure that it will fulfill the hope of the makers".
