COOKIN’ UP THE BLUES WITH TABASCO by Paul McIlhenny

Avery Island, Louisiana: McIlhenny Company, (1993). First edition. Paperback. Small 4to. Measuring 9 3/4 inches by 10 inches. Features musicians and recipes of their favorite dishes using Tabasco Sauce. This special copy is inscribed by legendary blues guitarist Lonny Brooks (1933-2017) on page 8 that features his favorite “Chicken Pot Pie” recipe. Laid in is a ticket to a concert given by Lonnie Brooks at Amherst College on February 2, 1995. On the verso of the small ticket is the signature of Lonnie Brooks. Over the course of his career, guitarist/vocalist Lonnie Brooks has come a long way. From his early days backing zydeco pioneer Clifton Chenier to his years as a hit-producing Gulf Coast R&B artist to his emergence as an innovative Chicago bluesman, Lonnie has created an instantly recognizable, signature sound and style. Combining rock ‘n’ roll, Memphis soul, Cajun boogie, country twang and hard Chicago blues, Brooks defies simple classification. His massive voice and blistering guitar playing make every song he performs his own. And as anyone who’s ever seen him in concert can attest, his live performances are legendary for kick-starting a party and spreading a rollicking good time. Other recipes; blues diva Marva Wright’s ‘Red Beans & Brisket’, blues guitarist Kenny Neal’s ‘Dose & Dem Nuts’, blues and soul vocalist Carol Fran and her guitarist husband Clarence Hollimon’s ‘Fried Chicken Salad’, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown’s ‘Religious Corn Muffins’, The Memphis Horns’ (Andrew Love and Wayne Jackson) ‘Soul Stew’, Buckwheat Zydeco’s ‘Shrimp Creole’, Earl King’s ‘Burgoo’, Dan Aykroyd (Elwood Blues) ‘Chicken Sandwich’, Tinsley Ellis’ ‘Grilliades & True Grits’, Lynn August’s ‘Crawfish Fettuccine’, Joe Walsh’s “All-American Tuna Fish Casserole’, Koko Taylor/s ‘Jivin’ Jambalaya’, The Thomas Family’s ‘South Memphis Soul Loaf’, Aerosmith’s ‘Scrod with Onions’, Terrance Simien’s ‘Pine Bark Stew’, Buddy Guy’s “Seafood Okra Gumbo’, Maria Muldaur’s ‘Hoppin’ John’, and, last but certainly not least Irma Thomas’s ‘Stuffed Crawfish Bread’. 41 pages in full color and staple bound in the original decorated wrappers as issued.
